Sex Therapy and Out of Control Sexual Behavior (an alternative to Sex Addiction Treatment)
Our sexuality and relationship with sex can be the source of our greatest joy and deepest pain.
My graduate training in sex education and advanced training in sex therapy (Masters of Human Sexuality Education; AASECT Certified Sex Therapist; Certified Sex Addiction Therapist) has brought me to a comprehensive understanding of how to assist people in embracing and healing their sexual pains, disconnects, fears and compulsions. Above all else I hold sexual health and positive sexual focus as my goal while working with all sexual struggles.
I have extensive experience working in the realm of problematic sexual behavior, oftentimes called Sex Addiction, Sexual Compulsivity, and Out of Control Sexual Behavior. While I have worked at two of the premier sex addiction facilities in the world (Gentle Path at The Meadows and Keystone Extended Care Unit) and trained with Dr. Patrick Carnes, my current approach in helping individuals address these problematic cycles is grounded in a sexual health model created by Doug Braun-Harvey. This model integrates self-regulation, attachment wounding, psycho-education, and positive sexual re-writing of scripts. This approach sees OCSB as a behavioral problem versus a disease or life-long disorder.
I also work with issues of desire and arousal, poly and non-monogamous relationships, LGBTQIA+ and create an affirmative space for sex workers and BDSM and kink lifestyles.
In this training video for other therapists, Cassandra shares about her journey from working in the country's leading Sex AddictIon treatment facilities, her training as a CSAT, and her conscious movement towards an approach that would help her clients heal and grow.
In this video, one of the developers of the sexual health model Cassandra uses (OCSB) explains more about the foundations of the approach.
